THE MOST RESTRICTED PHONE NUMBER IN AMERICA?

The most restricted phone number in America could be 737-874-2833 -- it spells out R-E-S-T-R-I-C-T-E-D on your telephone keypad.

It's sometimes used by phone companies as a placeholder when caller ID information is being suppressed. Investigators should make note of it because it does come up from time to time in phone investigations and can be a real head scratcher if you don't know about it.

Nuisance phone call websites like callcatalog.com show a number of public postings by people wanting to know whose phone number it is. Don't bother calling it, you'll just get a 'your call cannot be completed as dialed' recording. The area code '737' is not active yet, but is reserved to relieve future phone number exhaustion in the Austin, Texas area.

10/2012 UPDATE: We learned that +266-696-687 is also being used and it spells "anonymous".
